Raising a neurodivergent child — ADHD, Autism or both — is a team sport. Here's the game plan.
🏎️ The reframe
Your child hears plenty about what their brain gets wrong. Race Brain flips the script: ADHD and Autistic brains are racing brains — fast, alert, tuned to catch what everyone else misses. Some collect every sound in the room; some run a thousand laps on one glorious topic. Racing drivers get paid for exactly those traits. The difference is the track, the training and the pit crew around them.
Same brain. Different story. Different kid.
🗣️ The language of choice
Every Race Brain story and game is written in the language of choice. Words like "can" and "choose" replace pressure words. A child who feels blamed shuts down; a child who feels capable takes the wheel.
🏁 It's all practice
Nothing here is a test, a contest or a performance. Every session is a practice lap, and the only score that matters is your child's own personal best. Practice laps accumulate and never reset — a camping trip or a rough fortnight costs them nothing. The big race is the school of life, and this is training for it.
💰 How the points work
Learning: Reading Sprint 10 · Spelling Sprint 15 · Full Lap +5 for both. Tricky Words pay double — Tricky Spelling 30 · Sentence Sprint 20 · Champion +10 for both. Maths adds up to 20, and Pit Crew Duties are whatever you set.
Your part: you decide what a point is worth, and you sign duties off with a Race Manager PIN so nothing self-awards. At 2c a point a strong week is around $12; at 5c nearer $30. The week resets Monday, so payday is Sunday night.
Fading it out: points are training wheels. As the habit sticks, step the rate down and let the practice stand on its own — that's the goal, and it's worth naming out loud with your child.
⚡ When the engine's revving hot
Big feelings arrive at race speed in a racing brain — and sometimes the paddock is simply too loud, too bright, too much. That's the hardware working as designed. In the moment, skip the lecture and offer the tool: "Pit stop?" Two words, one shared breath, and the front wing usually goes back on. The breathing tool is always open and never earns points, on purpose.
